Simson Kovacs is a high-mix precision machine shop built to move easily between one-offs, new programs, and repeat production.
The Wallingford team has decades of experience across power generation, medical, industrial, and commercial work, with power-generation airfoils remaining a longtime specialty. Since joining Collective, the shop has also expanded into aerospace work while investing heavily in cobots, lights-out machining, and upgraded inspection capacity.

CAPABILITIES

3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling and turning for complex, tight-tolerance parts, from prototype through production. Simson supports tolerances as tight as .0001"

Cobot-assisted machining extends production beyond staffed hours on the right repeat work, increasing throughput without giving up the shop’s flexibility. The team is also developing automated fourth-axis machining for more complex work.

Design refinement, manufacturability input, programming, fixturing, reverse engineering, and prototype development. One great proof point: David and former owner Al once reverse-engineered, fixtured, machined, and shipped replacement power-generation airfoils within a week to help bring a Hungarian power plant back online.

HISTORY
Machining their way into the American Dream.
Simson Kovacs started as Kovacs Machine & Tool by Hungarian brothers Arpy and Vilmos Kovacs after immigrating to the United States. The land of opportunity had plenty of need for their machining knowledge.
When it came time for them to retire, three of their long-time employees, Allen Cuccaro, Mike Frank, and Pete Albrycht, purchased the business. Early growth came largely from Sikorsky work. When those programs slowed, the team did what a smart job shop does: they branched out, found work that fit their capabilities, and kept making things. Some of the parts they picked up in that era are still running through the shop today.
The owners later added Simson Products, bringing a major power-generation business into the mix. Airfoils became one of the shop’s bread-and-butter product lines and have remained a specialty for roughly three decades.
Passing the torch.
Kovacs Machine and Simson Products joined Collective Manufacturing in 2024.
For former co-owner Allen Cuccaro, the decision came down to more than finding a buyer. After nearly 50 years around the business, he wanted the employees, customers, and company itself to have a future. He described the transition to Collective as “passing the torch” to owners who understand manufacturing and have the energy and passion to invest in the new technology, equipment, and people that will take the business forward.
Collective’s promise is already playing out in the promotion of key employees to leadership roles and the expansion of capabilities. They’ve added cobots for unattended production, upgraded inspection capabilities, built a brand new gathering space and brought in equipment from sister companies. Tapping into the expertise across the Collective, Simson Kovacs has now expand into aerospace work as well.
